Kay R. Barrett

Kay R. Barrett is a PhD Candidate in English at Stanford University. She researches literary and media representations of Blackness from the 19th century onwards, focusing on Black feminist interventions in speculative genres. From Hannah Crafts' The Bondwoman's Narrative to NK Jemisin's The Fifth Season, her work traverses a range of texts to excavate Black feminist and queer reworkings of genre-specific concepts like monstrosity, utopia, and apocalypse.
